Jambo!

Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year!

I am grateful that we get to join as a team again this year, add new members to our school family, and go hard for our children.  I am excited that we get to do the work together!  When I reflect on 2020, I think about the various amounts of change endured and the many ways change has been experienced.  I think about how the pandemic has intensified the need for personal relationship building.  Our students will need their school community to know a lot about them, their life, their interest, their hopes, their dreams, and their struggles.  Our staff is charged to meet their needs, while also tending to their own social emotional well-being.

Throughout these historic moments, I have allowed myself to have a deeper connection to being vulnerable. We are living in tough times.  Truth be told, the effects brought forth by the pandemic that many families are experiencing have been everyday circumstances for Black and Brown families.  We all have a moral imperative to ensure that our student’s social emotional and academic needs are met with custom pathways based on their voice.

Our year ahead will be faced with many firsts.  First experiences have the potential to associate with emotions such as fear, anxiety, and irritability.  There will be times where students, families and staff will need support; academically and socially, emotionally and physically.  We will develop a school year of high expectations teaching and learning no matter virtual or in-person.

Our work this year will be centeredon being Resourceful, Responsive and Resilient.

This is an unprecedented year.  Let’s embrace an optimistic approach and together reimagine public education for the better.  We have been given a unique opportunity, a gift, and a chance.

Thank you for joining me on this journey to transform teaching and learning for everyone.

Hotep!
